Deborah Naves

My art is inspired by the wonder of nature and her amazing ability to create uniqueness that is elusive, dramatic and rare. That exquisiteness cannot be recreated but I try to capture the feeling and significance of that moment in each one of my paintings - the atmosphere in a sunset; a storm or a stunning sky or an unusual animal pose. I aim to seize that fleeting moment’s awe and preserve its meaning and intent. Because I want the art to grab you, I tend to exaggerate the subject by means of composition and then color. I add lots of blending and drying retardant medium to my acrylic paints so I can smoosh and scrape the paint on the canvas or board. I actually prefer board. I will often use a palette knife to lay down my first layer...
